Meeting report for October 12, 2017

The meeting was called to order by the President Desi Arnaiz at the Prince William County Animal Shelter.

Other attending Chapter Officer’s were: Vice President Darrell Harvey, Treasurer Tony Midgett and Secretary- Bob Pace.

Other attending member’s, associates and guests were: Jim Downs – VVA, Ron Knowles – VVA, Robert Sorrell – VVA and Gordon Tassi – VVA. 

Desi requested the attendees stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Inspirational – Inspirational words were said to open the meeting.

Secretary – Report for the September, 2017 meeting was approved.

Treasurer – Tony reported on the Chapter’s checking account balance. For more detail information contact the Chapter's President or Treasurer.

AVVA Report – Darrell reported for Ginger on the Chapter's AVVA membership..

Committee Reports – Membership – Darrell reported on the Chapter’s VVA membership.

Hurricane Relief - -The Chapter made a donation to the Texas State Council at the September meeting. A motion was made to send doantion’s to both the Florida State Council and Rico State Council. The motion pass with both being sent $300 to each.

Hillendale Dr. Cleanup – The last clean-up is to be October 14, 2017. We meet in the commuter lot beside the Fire Station off Hillendale Dr about 8:30 am. The cleanup takes about an hour. VVA National – Board of Directors meeting will be held in Silver Spring, MD at the Double Tree (by Hilton) 20-22 October 2016. Bob shall be an attendee at this meeting.

VSC meeting – The next VSC meeting Oct 27– 29, 2017.Virginia Beach Resort Hotel and Conference Center, 2800 Shore Dr, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. Desi and Darrrll are going to the VSC this meeting.

Manassas Veterans Day Parade -  The parade is to take place Saturday November 4, 2017 starting at 11:00 am.  We plan to meet up as a group at the Dunkin Donuts, 8985 Centreville Rd, Manassas, VA 20110 around 9:00 am to 9:30 am. From there we’ll head out to our place in the parade line-up. Holiday Dinner – Holiday Dinner this year is planned for December 14 2017

Wreath- Laying – This year’s wreath laying is to be done at the Veterans Memorial, located on the grounds of the Prince William County Government - James J. McCoart Administration center on November 3, 2017. The wreath – laying is to starting at 10:00 am. Chapter Members Reading Names at “The Wall”- Reading of the Names, for the 35th Anniversary Of The Wall, runs around the clock from November 7 – 10, 2017.

At this time we know of two Chapter members who are to be Reading Names. Chapter #617 members James Gerrald and Jerry Martin, who both shall be Reading on November 9th.

If you would like to be on-site to support either or both of the members Reading, please contact the Chapter for information as to Reading time’s.

Ken Burns's “The Vietnam War” - An open discussion about the 10-part documentary film ”The Vietnam War”, was held.
