Meeting report for September 14, 2017

The meeting was called to order by Vice President Darrell Harvey at the Prince William County Animal Shelter.

Other attending Chapter Officer’s were: Treasurer Anthony Midgett and Secretary- Bob Pace.

Other attending member’s, associates and guests were: Bill West– VVA, Ginger Harvey – AVVA,  Ron Knowles – VVA, Ken Moore – VVA. 

Darrell requested the attendees stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Inspirational – Inspirational words were said to open the meeting.

Secretary – Report for the July 2017 meeting was accepted.

Treasurer – Tony reported on the Chapter’s checking account balance. For more detail information contact the Chapter's President or Treasurer.

AVVA – Ginger reported for that the Chapter's AVVA membership at 19 members.

Also Ginger reported on her trip to the National AVVA Convention in New Orleans, LA.

Committee Reports – Membership – Darrell reported on the Chapter’s VVA membership stands at 84 members.

Hillendale Dr. Cleanup – A motion was made to do one last clean-up for this year on October 14, 2014. The motion passed.

We meet in the commuter lot beside the Fire Station off Hillendale Dr about 8:30 am. The cleanup takes about an hour. For more location information go to the Chapter's calendar page on our web site www.vva617.org and click onto the event to pull-up a “Google” map.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Request for help on car repairs – Chapter member’s request for financial help for repairs to his car has been withdrawn.
No need for discussion.

Hurricane Harvey - The VVA Texas State Council is undertaking a relief effort to assist our VVA members in Texas who have been victimized by Hurricane Harvey. For purposes of expediency, please make all checks payable to chapter, VVA Ch. 292, and designate them for "Harvey Relief"; mail them to VVA Ch 292. at P.O. Box 1071, Beaumont, TX 77704-1071.

A motion was made for the Chapter to make a $300 donation to help with the  "Harvey Relief". The motion passed.

VVA National – Board of Directors meeting will be held in Silver Spring, MD at the Double Tree (by Hilton) 20-21 October 2017. Bob Pace shall try to be at this meeting. Any one other who would like to attend this meeting is more than welcome.

VSC meeting – The next VSC meeting Oct 27– 29, 2017.VIRGINIA BEACH RESORT HOTEL AND CONFERENCE CENTER, 2800 SHORE DR, VIRGINIA BEACH, VA 23451, phone -855-516-1090. Cut off date for reservations is September 28, 2017.

Desi and Darrell shall both try to be at this meeting.

NEW BUSINESS -

Manassas Veterans Day Parade -  The parade is to take place Saturday November 4, 2017 starting at 11:00 am. The Chapter has been notify that our application has been received, and is accepted to participate in the parade.

A motion was made for the Chapter to purchase a half-page ($150) advertisement in this year's Program Book. The motion passed. We’ll try to have AVVA member Cheri Arnaiz send in the needed text and graffiti for the book.

Holiday Dinner – Darrell and Ron are looking at location options for this years Chapter's Holiday Dinner, date, time and location TBD.

Veterans Center – Line item for annual donation to the Veterans Affairs Center – Roanoke, VA. Tony shall make the donation when he receives updated information from the Vet-Center.

Prince William County Animal Shelter: Line item for annual donation ($300) to the Prince William County Animal Shelter folks for there annual Holiday get together. Tony shall make the donation from the Chapter’s checking account.

OTHER-

 The premiere of Ken Burns's “The Vietnam War” - "This Sunday, the premiere of Ken Burns's monumental new 10-part documentary film series, The Vietnam War, which tells the epic story of one of the most consequential, divisive and controversial events in American history." The Vietnam War premieres Sunday, September 17 at 8pm EST on your local PBS station.
